Two Hamsticks working as a dipole at 17' above average ground: At a take-off angle of 30 degrees this beats the ground mounted vertical hamstick by 2 dB. I get -10 dBi for the vert and -8 dBi for the dipole. I used center loading with a Q of 125 (my guess as to the Hamstick model). I then attached a 1/4 wavelength wire at the feed to simulate the coax shield. Not much feedline radiation- so, no balun is really needed. While these numbers might not be really accurate, they are relative and say that the dipole and vertical perform about the same.
