Dear readers:
As mentioned in one of my column, Stone's Throw!, I thought it might be appropriate and useful to create a new mail list open for discussion of any subjects relating to antennas, antenna systems and other similar subjects related to radio operation. Some examples are antenna theory, existing and developing antennas, antenna signal measurements and testing, propagation, test equipment, various components, etc.

The new mail list is in addition to the Discussion Forums that have existed on the antenneX website since its launch on the Internet.

The mail list "antenna-discussion" has been created for your use and you are invited to join a list of very talented folks who have similar interests.

The list is operated by Majordomo, which many if not all may already be familiar with how it works. However, here is a brief set of instructions without explaining any of the reasons:

TWO EMAIL LISTS Plus Web-Based ARCHIVES:
There are TWO email lists: one is a regular list where one can post and follow the individual threads. The other list is a daily "digest" as well for those who like to receive a digested summary of the daily emails. You may join either or both lists. To join the digest, just substitute "antenna-discussion-digest" in place of "antenna-discussion" where described below.

WEB-BASED ARCHIVES
Before explaining the methods of subscribing to the two lists, we have also provided a Web-Based Archive of all of the past messages for those who had rather read them in that format instead of the daily email "Digest". However, the Web-Based Archive access requires a personal login in order to restrict access to valid members and to help prevent entry from folks who are only interested in harvesting email addresses.

TO SUBSCRIBE TO EMAIL LISTS:
There are two methods to subscribing:

Web Page Method: You may subscribe using the automatic e-mail system in Method 2, or submit your subcription via web page by clicking here. This method is a little slower, but easy.

E-Mail Method:
1) Set your e-mail program to use PLAIN TEXT only & not HTML. Pick fixed-space Courier as your FONT (9-10pt).
2) Margins should not exceed 72 characters
3) Address an e-mail to: majordomo@antennex.com
4) Leave the SUBJECT blank
5) In the top 2 lines of the body of the e-mail, type:
subscribe antenna-discussion
end

The #5 step will subscribe you to the address from where you are sending from. To subscribe using another email address, just add the other email address on line 1 shown above:
subscribe antenna-discussion you@otherplace.net
end

Now, just send the email -- your e-mail program may complain about no subject.

After sending in your e-mail to subscribe, you will receive a confirmation request. Just follow the instructions on that short request. If you don't send it back, you will not be subscribed. Following is an example of the Subscription Confirmation you will receive with your private KEY.

SENDING BACK THE CONFIRMATION
Below is an exact example of the subscription confirmation email form you will receive back after sending in the request to subscribe above. Note that all you really need to do is hit reply and send. The system will then reply with two emails as a final confirmation and a Welcome to the list.

Someone ("Your Name" <you@somewhere.net>) has requested
that your email address be subscribed to the mailing list
"antenna-discussion@antennex.com".

If you really want this action to be taken, send a reply to this
message to confirm@antennex.com including the following confirmation key
anywhere in the subject or the body:

KEY: C57E4E4-3BAA328

You must reply in two weeks or this request will expire.

If you do not want this action to be taken, simply ignore this message
and the request will be disregarded.

If you have any questions about the policy of the list owner, please
contact "antenna-discussion-approval@antennex.com".

TO POST TO LIST:
To start posting a new thread to the list, address your e-mail to:
antenna-discussion@antennex.com

The digest is NOT for posting. All postings must be made to the regular list.

To reply to a thread, use your "Reply to All" which will always copy the sender of the thread and a copy to the rest of the list.

ARCHIVES:
The "Welcome" will explain how to retrieve the archives.
