I built a nice one back in the early 80's.I read w4rnl analysis of some mediocre deigns.I sent him all the details of my pre-modeling days design.I hope he enjoys satisfying his curiosity.I beleive after crunching the mathematics that the design approached the best all around performance on a 13'boom this is meant to be a strong statement! This has been lessend to some extent due to the surgence of modern day modeling software.be that as it may the log-yag that i built for 10mtr.is still outperforming any other antenna in its class!I say this....that the Yagi enjoyed plenty of optimization and still falls short of a log-yagi.The reason is simple.Cell gain.a 7dbd starting point rather than a 2dbd starting point.the Log-yagi can then be improved just like the yagi by adding directors.yes the log-yagi is still the boss it will always outperform a yagi that is as much as 30% longer. No not a lesson in futility but a labor of love!
