I am new to HF radio - I have a crystal locked, 100 watt, long range Tracker, for use in the car on remote travel. I have made a bottom loaded (in PVC housing) stainless steel whip (for a single frequency - 5455khz) - works really well - would now like to modify the design so that I can tap the windings for 8022khz - question ? When I tap the windings and bypass some of the coil do I remove the value of the bypassed coil section from the maths ? IE: Does the tap wire that does the bypassing take all of the signal ? I ask this, as a novice - I have noted that the bypassed section is still "in circuit", parallel to the tap wire, and don't know the effect this has. Any comment appreciated.
