My feeling is that there is a confusion between the X-beam and the Hex-beam ! Based on my computer simulation, in the case of the Hex-beam (made up of 2 W's or 4 V's), the radiation resistance goes from 25 ohms down to 12 (5.5 dBi, very goog F/B up to 6.8 dBi or so). My preliminary tests on a homebrewed 10m monobander Hex-beam confirm this although the actual aerial location (the center of the beam is 1.8m away from the building wall and balcony) implies some coupling with nearby metallic structures (drastic change in SWR by rotating the arm supporting the antenna). More tests will be conducted from a better location. I must tell that I am quite pleased by these first experiments (and DXs with 100W) considering that that my design weights approximatively 1 kg !
