YES! The wireman ladder line has the advantage that it is really stiff, which may be an advandtage during wind. Homemade ladderline, especially if it is lightwight (no heavy ceramic spreaders) moves in the wind and maybe tangles itself. Possibly it is a good idea to guy the lightwight homemade ladderline with monofilament fishing line at some points if this intallation is not to be changed twice a week and the guy lines do not endanger people or animals because they are high enough. You can make lightwight ladderline yourself by using enameled copper wire and thick nylon wire (spare part for grass trimmers) as spreaders. If you work with a "hot air gun" you can bend the nylon wire around the copper wire. Seems to work great. There are some articles in the ham literature about it. If you prefer a more heavy construction (ask the XYL first, it's the same here, Hi) fair radio sales sent a "fall 2001 catalog supplement" these days where they offer unused 12" fiberglass insulators. I think you may find ceramic ones at Surplus Sales of Nebraska. I have seen such things there on their web site. With greetings from Germany Andreé
