DD3LY is exactly on the money ! I will offer one other method, that I have actually used. I am a user of balanced feedlines where-ever possible, and I have a LOT of 450 ohm twinlead about this QTH ! I created a 17 meter half-wave pipe from two inch metal rain-gutter down-spout. I don't know what terms a VK would use for that stuff, but anyway, I did it. (Noise Bridge for resonance.) I set the pipe on a glass soft drink bottle..and guyed it with nylon line. Next, using the inner conductor from some RG-213, I wrapped 3 or 4 turns of "coil" around the pipe. I fed that "link" with the trusty 450 ohm twinlead...matched 'er up and is worked quite well ! How well ? Who knows, I have no lab gear for far field intensity work, but it DID radiate !!
