I found somewhere in the net the web site of "Q-Tek" (UK?, I am not quite shure) where they offered an antenna consisting of two of those metal springs which children let climb down the stairs (they, the springs of course [Hi], do this by their own potential energy). Q-Tek seems to pull the two springs some meters so that the windings do not touch and recommends to feed this helical dipole by a tuner. You may be able to buy such springs in a shop for childrens' toys. Perhaps you will get some made from stainless steel in a shop for experimental and physics equipment (Edmund Scientific perhaps??? Investigate!). You may support the spring by a heavy monofilament fishing line. Feed it through a ladder line to a (really) symmetric tuner. NOT a tuner just with a 1:4-BalUn at its output or you will get problems, even with 100Wpep! There was an article about "a symmetric symmetric tuner" (YES, I wanted to write this word twice) in QST. I will be able to find out at which date if you want me so...
