My objective is to receive a clear, strong signal from a commercial FM station (88.5) about 160 miles away. At present with a minimal antenna (5' wire) I receive a weak, noisy signal (not enough for stereo). I know almost nothing about antennas. Is dB gain a measure of antenna effectiveness? Any guesses as to the gain that I would need to achieve my objective? Would a general purpose TV antenna do, or should I try to build one that specifically for this frequency? Thanks.....
