There seems to be some confusion here about the Lorenz gauge which is an idea used in solutions of Maxwell's equations using potentials. The basic equations, and later results like Poynting's theorem, do not need a gauge to be used, so it is not right to say that a gauge was employed somehow to filter or change Maxwell's basic results. In any case Lorenz is not the only gauge in use. . 73s Alan
