I must thank Bill for providing me with the answer for why does the Cross Field not work. I did all my experiments at 35 MHz with the 1/2 Watt TX in a tin box with its battery and matching circuitry. I could get 1:1 vswr but radiation from the CF ant was no better than a piece of wire the same height. Every given sort of matching circuit was tried to no avail it was fun though.
