David - you did not say who you are commenting for, the operator or the residents, so it is not clear whether you are the poacher or the gamekeeper. I think your figures are about right, except that base stations often use antennas with vertical directivity, producing an pattern that is (usually) omnidirectional in azimuth with 5-15dB of gain depending on the price of the antenna. Of course the transmitter power might be quoted as erp . . . . Public debate about base stations has moved away from the technical arena and is a convenient vehicle for the local media to increase their profile, and we often see parents with placards having a demo when a base station is planned at the local school. . . A lot ot them smoke cigarettes as they demonstrate, showing they are content in an activity that may well give them cancer, while protesting about a device of a type that has not produced a single documented casualty . . . .
