David - Right, the practicalities are an issue, but steps can be taken to reduce local losses, like (for example) placing a conducting ground mat in the very near-field region close to the antenna where the ground losses are the worst, and conducting the tests outside as far as possible from other objects which could disturb the results. I was addressing the strategy, there is plenty of room for discussion about the tactics . . . . . Kind regards, Alan
