Bill,

There may be a way to test out some of your thoughts on dielectrics with NEC. If you look at this month's modeling article by LB, you can see that the NEC-4 "IS" card may be the way to go.

This enables you, or someone you may know who has NEC-4, to model two dipoles with the following properties:

1 - break up each monopole half into two parts and use wires of different dielectrics for each. Eg use bare wire for the halves near the feedpoint and heavily insulated wire for the outer halves.

2 - make up a folded dipole but use wires of different dielectrics for each wire. This is as close as you are going to get to see what effect there would be from coating half of a wire with a different dielectric along its full length.
