Strictly speaking, there are two sources of radiation.

1) A pre-existing propagating wave, otherwise seen as a stream of photons. They can be diffracted, refracted, and diverted.

2) Or accelerated charge. This is entirely equivalent to a time-varying current.

In the latter case, the contribution to the remote field, for a little element (length) of changing current, is proportional to

*the size of the current *the length of the wire in which it flows *the rate at which it changes (ie frequency)

If any one of these is zero, there is no radiation.

reasonably simple...
