With Phil Harman's article 'What on Earth' in mind. Is there a reason to include the vehicle's body/chassi as part of the other half or ground plane for a mobile vertical? The body/chassi makes a poor second half, could it not be used? Example, for 2M operation, could you not use a 5/8 wave vertical with ground plane radials on top of a vehicle separate from the car body? Or would the large steel mass underneath the antenna put a dent in the plan. Same goes for lower frequency operation, skip the body and use radials as described by Phil.
